ICE responds to migration advisory committee report
Commenting on the MAC report today that outlined possible scenarios for limiting economic migration levels, Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Vice President Barry Clarke said:
"We are pleased that MAC's proposals take into account the impact of restricting the UK's ability to attract highly skilled workers. Having access to specialist workers that we cannot currently supply indigenously is vital to drive forward critical infrastructure projects - £200 bn worth in the next five years by Government's own estimation - that are crucial to our long-term economic vitality and low carbon goals. However the underlying factor remains the urgent need not only attract highly skilled workers but to continue to upskill our own workforce, ensuring we have a world-class engineering profession equipped to address the challenges of the future both in the UK and overseas."
