ICE response to feed-in tariff levels

Date:

Households and communities who install renewable electricity technologies such as small wind turbines and solar panels will from April be entitled to claim payments for the low carbon electricity they produce.

Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband today announced the feed-in tariff (FITs) levels and also published a blueprint for a similar scheme to be introduced in April 2011 to incentivise low carbon heating technologies.

ICE Director General, Tom Foulkes, commented:

“Today’s announcement is a welcome step in the right direction. ICE has been calling for a feed-in tariff for small scale low carbon electricity for some time, to incentivise the shift to low carbon living and help address the security of supply challenge facing the UK.

“ Securing our energy supply needs be at the very top of the agenda and prompt action from the Government to help prevent future shortfalls is vital. We look forward to seeing more detail on a heat feed-in tariff, which will similarly incentivise low carbon heating technologies.“
