Vote for the engineer of the Elizabethan era
To mark the Diamond Jubilee, BBC Radio 4 will be profiling 60 public figures who have made the greatest impact during The Queen's reign. These include men and women who have defined the era, whose deeds will stand the test of time and who will be remembered down the years for changing the way we live and think. Leading historians will debate and decide on the final list of 60, which will be published in the summer.
The BBC would like a broad range of figures for the top 60, and is asking people to vote online for who they think meets these requirements and why, before 9 March 2012.
Nominees must:
- Have had an impact on life in the UK at some time between 1952 (the accession of Queen Elizabeth II) and the present day
- Have been alive during this period but do not have to be living now
- Nominees do not have to be, or have been, a U.K. national or U.K. resident and there is no limit on the number of nominations an individual can make.
Some suggestions put forward by ICE include:
- John Armitt
- John Burland
- Doug Oakervee
- Ove Arup
- William Harris
- Peter Rice
- Santiago Calatrava
- Bill Frischmann
- Alan Harris
- Peter Head
- Jack Zunz
Please vote for the engineer you think deserves to be in the top 60 and spread the word to help ensure a civil engineer makes the list.
