Training Scheme

An ICE Approved Training Scheme provides a structured approach to your trainees in meeting the requirements of the ICE Development Objectives as set out within Development Objectives for EngTech TMICE / AMICE / MICE and IEng MICE / CEng MICE.

It is a commitment you make as an Employer to your trainees and sets out how you will provide trainees with the opportunity and support to gain the knowledge and experience required to complete the Initial Professional Development (IPD).

How to establish an Approved Training Scheme

UK or Hong Kong based organisations who wish to establish an ICE Approved Training Scheme should, in the first instance, contact ICE via their Regional Support Team.

Organisations based outside of these areas should, in the first instance, contact the CATS coordinator or the Professional Development Manager.

In each case, the Regional Support Team or Professional Development Manager will then advise what the Scheme should contain and help to progress it to the stage where it can be approved. Please consult ICE Approved Training Schemes (Information for Employers) for further information.

Supervising Civil Engineers and Delegated Engineers

Before any Training Scheme may be approved, it must include a minimum of one Supervising Civil Engineer (SCE) whose role it is to mentor trainees through their period of training. A SCE may be assisted by a Delegated Engineer (DE).

For further guidance on the two roles please consult Role of Supervising Civil Engineer (SCE) and Delegated Engineer (DE) (UK based) or Role of Supervising Civil Engineer (SCE) and Delegated Engineer (DE) (non UK based).

Training Agreements Online

The Training AGreementS Online (TAGSO) modules make the administration of your training scheme much easier.

Not only does TAGSO allow your trainees to register and transfer training agreements online (reducing administration workload) but you are provided with read-only access to a dedicated administration area which allows you visibility of the main ICE database, permitting you to monitor the status of trainees' applications and progress. You also have an automated online payment option.

You can confirm if your company is enabled for online registration via our Approved Employers Search Tool.

If your company currently holds an ICE Approved Training Scheme via the online facility you are can access the employer extranet via the following link: www.ice.org.uk/catsemployer.
