' A positive Retrofit of Existing Coal Fed Power Stations ' The job of ensuring a secure and reliable national electricity supply has now become one of the most important problems facing the Government and industry. The Government is supporting both new nuclear power stations and coal fired power stations will special developments to reduce the CO2 emissions. Mr Griffiths will outline some of the alternatives available to us and especially the continued use of coal as a clean fuel with no loss of output. About the speaker: Eur Ing John Griffiths BSc CEng FIChemE FEI has 45 years service as a chemical engineer in process engineering, commissioning, consultancy and management positions. His main expertise is in the production, treatment and use of synthesis gas for fuel gas, hydrogen, chemical and fertiliser, and power production. He led the conceptual design teams for the 500 MW ISAB and Sarlux IGCC plants in Italy and is currently part of the Management Team for the first IGCC plant at Hatfield, South Yorkshire. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and of the Energy Institute. He will chair the Ninth European Gasificatio Conference to be held in Dusseldorf in March 2009.
