Dreamworks, the makers of Shrek, and Aardman, the makers of Wallace and Grommit, joined forces for the first time in 2006 to make a major children’s film ‘Flushed Away’.
‘Flushed Away’ followed the adventures of high-society rat Roddy (voiced by Hugh Jackman) and tomboy sewer rat Rita (Kate Winslet) in the beautifully engineered sewers under London as they tried to escape the evil Toad (Ian McKellen). The story was of a journey and was about the formation of an unlikely friendship set in a mini underground London made entirely from re-used rubbish thrown away by humans “up top”.
We produced 10,000 copies of an educational game based on the film for Key Stage 1 (5-7 years olds were the film’s key target audience) and distributed them free of charge to primary school teachers across the UK.
Unfortunately, all the copies are gone now but we will be launching more free resources for schools in the coming months. If you would like to be kept informed or have any other questions or comments, please email andrew.davidson@ice.org.uk.
