ICE 200 - engineering heritage in Kent & East Sussex, Maidstone

About this event

2018 marks the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

To celebrate, the ICE is running a year of events and activities that show how civil engineering has for over 200 years transformed the way we live. As part of this, 200 stand-out engineering projects from the past two centuries have been chosen by our members from around the world.

These ICE 200 projects range from iconic landmark structures such as the Forth Bridges and Pontcysyllte Aqueduct through to lesser-known but no less vital community-scale schemes on several continents. They are being announced in batches at monthly intervals on the ICE website, and a commemorative book will be published later in the year.

So what about Kent and East Sussex?

Richard Adam, local member of the ICE’s Panel for Historical Engineering Works, will be highlighting 12 projects in the branch area – some already announced (such as the Channel Tunnel and the London Array offshore windfarm) and giving a sneak preview of others which are due to follow over the forthcoming months.

What would you have chosen? Will they be on the list? Come along and find out – there may be some surprises!
