Further Learning is the term used to describe the additional work needed to complete the educational base which you need to become professionally qualified.
Additional information
Further Learning fills the gap between your initial accredited or individually assessed qualification and the educational base needed to register as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer. Individual applicants who hold an initial qualification which is not at the correct level for their desired registration type (Masters level for CEng, Bachelors level for IEng) will be required to complete a period of further learning.
Examples of Further Learning
For example, regarding the academic requirements for:
- Chartered/Incorporated Engineer - a BEng(Hons)/BSc (Hons) degree would meet the academic requirement for IEng but would require Further Learning to meet the requirement for CEng
- IEng/EngTech – a HNC/HND or Foundation Degree would meet the academic requirement for EngTech but would require Further Learning to meet the requirement for IEng
- Other qualifications that satisfy the educational base for an Engineering Technician such as approved NC/ND or NVQ level III or IV will also require Further Learning to top-up the award to satisfy the educational base for an Incorporated Engineer.
Further Learning options
If you have completed an initial qualification and need to complete further learning to meet your desired educational base, there are two ways to achieve this, as outlined below:
