ICE Approved Training Agreements
ICE recommends you join an Approved Training Scheme. It guarantees a commitment to mentoring by your employer and provides a structured approach to meeting the requirements of the ICE Development Objectives.

Below is a Search tool which can be used to locate companies whose training schemes are approved by ICE (where a website is available, it is shown; where no website is used, a telephone number is provided):

Training Agreements

To join a scheme, an individual must enter into a Training Agreement (TA) which links the trainee, employer and ICE. Whilst an employer will operate such a Scheme, the ICE through its Regional Support Teams (for UK based companies) will audit it and provide active assistance and guidance. Both the employer and trainee have to make commitments which are formalized in an Agreement. That Agreement is then registered with the ICE. Please consult Membership Guidance Note 31 for further guidance.

The TA requires the trainee to achieve Development Objectives. Completion of a TA is verified by means of the Training Review, and depending on the grade of membership, will take approximately 2-4 years. Progression will depend on workload and the commitment of all parties.

Online training agreement registrations/transfers

Some trainees can now apply to enter into a training agreement or register the transfer of their training agreement to a new company online. You can confirm if your company is enabled for online registration via our Approved Employers Search tool.

Before you register your training agreement with us online, we recommend that you meet with your registered SCE  (see MGN31) to agree that they will support you through your training agreement.

Your SCE should provide you with their Membership number which you will require as part of the application process.

“It is quick, convenient and hassle free.” (Trainee, Arup)

“The TAGSO system allowed me to sign up to an ICE training agreement in only a couple of minutes and was very straight forward to use.” (Trainee, Mott MacDonald)

“It was very quick, fast and easy. I strongly recommend this.” (Trainee, Tony Gee & Partners LLP)

If your employer has not signed up yet, you can still apply by completing the paper application form
