Mutual Exemption Agreements (MEA)

Mutual Exemption Agreements (MEA) exist between the ICE and certain non-UK professional institutions. These enable civil engineers from other institutions to become Professionally Qualified Members of ICE under the MEA terms. In addition, these Agreements (excluding that with the American Society of Civil Engineers) may lead to registration with the Engineering Council as a Chartered (CEng) or Incorporated (IEng) Engineer.

Applications for membership via the MEA route are considered by ICE's Exemption and Recognition Panel. The review is conducted as a desktop exercise but some applicants may be invited to attend an interview.

MEA's currently exist between the ICE and the following Institutions:

Please read the application requirements within Membership Guidance Note 29 appropriate to your host organisation and ensure that you have included all the information required.
