People of all ages and levels of experience apply for membership of ICE. Whether you´re younger than the Thames Barrier or older than the Hoover Dam, there is a grade of membership to suit your needs.
In 2005, we remodeled our existing grades and introduced new ones to fully reflect the structure of today´s industry.
Students
Student Members are engaged on civil engineering (or similar) undergraduate courses, that could lead to future membership as a Technician Member, Associate Member or Member.
Graduates
Graduate Members have completed such a course of study and are working towards professionally qualified membership.
Professionally Qualified Members
Technician Members are involved in applying proven techniques to solve practical engineering problems. They `carry supervisory or technical responsibility, and can exercise creative aptitudes and skills within defined fields of technology´.
Associate Members work in professions that are closely allied with the work of civil engineers in the built environment. They are entitled to add the letters AMICE to their name.
Members have achieved the required educational base and subsequent development to enable them to act as exponents of today´s technology, and both apply and manage its application within the broad field of civil engineering.
Holders of any of the above professionally qualified membership grades can also apply for Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) status with the Society for the Environment (SocEnv). Qualification involves satisfying an independent Chartered Environmentalist Professional Review.
Fellows attain the highest class of membership by making `a significant contribution to the civil engineering profession or advancing the practice of engineering´. They are entitled to add the letters FICE to their name.
Membership Grades for Other Professionals Connected with the Built and Natural Environment
An Affiliate works in a field associated to civil engineering, such as law and geology, or is a civil engineer that is not professionally qualified. Companions are those working at the same senior level as Fellows, supporting the advancement of engineering knowledge. Many of them find membership invaluable for the access it provides to ICE´s library and other services. Reinstatement of Membership
ICE's reinstatement procedures differ depending on how long you have been off the membership roll, and can be time consuming. All members requesting reinstatement must submit CPD records for assessment and may be invited for a professional review interview. Full details can be found in the document MGN33.
If you require any further information about reinstating your membership please contact 020 7665 2227 or email reinstatements@ice.org.uk. |
