Professional Reviews

The Professional Review is the final stage in becoming a Professionally Qualified Member. Graduates who have completed an ICE approved training scheme, or candidates who have successfully undertaken a Career Appraisal may apply for the Professional Review at the level appropriate to their grade of membership.

ICE is an international organisation and, as such, strives to accommodate applicants from all over the world. There is an established Professional Review Centres in Hong Kong.  Depending on candidate numbers Professional Reviews can also be arranged in China, the UAE, Brunei, New Zealand and India.  If  you wish to sit your Professional Review in any other country please contact a member of the Admissions & Transfers Team for further advice on +44 (0)207 665 2344.

Successful completion of a Professional Review will entitle you to the relevant designation:

Making an Application

Candidates wishing to make an application for a Professional Review should consult the Professional Review Checklist and submit the following:

*Certified copies must be "true copies of the original" which are signed and dated by a senior member of your employing company, a corporate member of ICE or one of your sponsors.

All applications for Membership must be supported by 3 sponsors (only 2 sponsors required for Technician Membership).

  • Member of an EC(UK) Licensed Professional Institution (PI)
  • Member of an Institution with which ICE has a Mutual Exemption Agreement

*Please Note: All sponsors must be in at least the same grade, or equivalent, of membership. Failure to provide adequate sponsor questionnaires can result in delays to the processing of your application.

These documents must be received by the ICE at One Great George Street within the submission dates set for each session of Professional Reviews.

ICE Publication (By law 16)

Applicants' names will be published in New Civil Engineer, New Civil Engineer International and on the ICE website for a period of 28 days to allow ICE Members to communicate in writing to the Director General if they have any reason to give why an applicant is not a fit and proper person to become a member. This list will be published in the Membership Downloads section of the website.

What happens on the Review Day?

On the day of the Review, all candidates will be required to attend an interview. Candidates undertaking an Associate Member Professional Review (AMPR) or a Member Professional Review (MPR) will also be required to make a short presentation and complete a Written Test.  Candidates undertaking a Chartered Professional Review (CPR) or a Chartered Professional Review Progressive (CPRP) will also be required to make a short presentation and complete a Written Assignment.
