The Register of Security Engineers and Specialists (RSES)
The Register of Security Engineers & Specialists (RSES) has been developed to promote excellence in the field of security engineering and provide a ready means for individuals to demonstrate competence in this discipline through independent assessment.
Security engineering is defined as “the protection of the health of the population, the built environment and infrastructure against terrorism, sabotage and crime by the application of engineering and scientific principles”. RSES is sponsored by the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) and is administered and operated by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
Categories of Registration
Registration is open to engineers, applied scientists, health professionals and specialists who apply their knowledge to securing the built environment and infrastructure. Although many applicants will be a member of a Chartered Institution this is not a requirement for membership of the RSES.
The Register will admit candidates in the following categories:
General Security Advisor
OR
Specialist Security Advisor: A Protection against the effects of Weapons
B Protection against the effects of Blast
C Electronic Security Systems
D CBRN
E Vehicle Barriers
F Pedestrian Barriers
G Explosives Detection (to follow)
Within the above categories, candidates can be admitted to the Register at the notional indicative levels of Technician, Incorporated and Chartered, hereafter referred to as grades A, B or C respectively.
The categories will enable applicants to be matched with appropriate Reviewers.
When completing the application form applicants should indicate whether they wish to be admitted to the Register as a General Security Advisor (GSA) or a Specialist Security Advisor (SSA). If applying for entry as a SSA, applicants should indicate only one SSA category. Finally, they should indicate at which grade they wish to be reviewed (A,B or C). It should be noted that GSA applicants will only be admitted to the RSES at grades B or C.
Operational Status
The Register was formally launched on 20 January 2009 by the Director General of the Security Service, Jonathan Evans. Applications are now being sought from across the security profession.
Individuals are also invited to contact ICE in the first instance, via email to registers@ice.org.uk to express their interest.
Please check this page regularly for updates to the operational status.

Registrants
Individual Registrants are not listed in open source documentation.
