The British Nuclear Energy Society (BNES)

The British Nuclear Energy Society (BNES) , established in 1962, is the leading learned body for all persons interested in nuclear energy. Its principal objectives are to:

  • provide information to members on nuclear energy issues,
  • provide a forum for members to meet and debate issues at local, national and international level,
  • provide opportunities for members to publish and present papers, to contribute to the public education activities of the British Nuclear Industry Forum and the nuclear industry as appropriate,
  • promote nuclear energy specific training in the UK.

The Society arranges a programme of conferences and seminars and a prestige Annual Congress/Lecture/Dinner in December. The Society also has a branch network, allowing members to meet locally and organise their own events, ranging from regionally based conferences and lectures to social events.

BNES has its own internationally recognised, bimonthly journal, 'Nuclear Energy', publishing high quality, scientific and overview papers on all topics associated with nuclear power, as well as topical news and comment. Members of BNES receive the journal as part of their subscription. In addition, as the Society is a member of the European Nuclear Society members receive their publication called Nuclear Europe Worldscan

Following the successful creation of the Young Generation Network groups within European Member Societies, BNES has also established a similar organisation, aimed at encouraging younger members to take benefit from an informal group network within the branch network.

The Society's own website, contains full details of its events, branch activities, news and links to nuclear organisations; please click here to access the site
