The Transport Planning Society aims to facilitate, develop and promote best practice in transport planning and provide a focus for dialogue between all those engaged in it, from a broad range of backgrounds and not limited by other professional affiliations.
The Society intends to encourage the dissemination of relevant information, foster debate and discussion, and make representations to government and other agencies on transport policy and transport planning practices. It will also offer advice on training and encourage the professional development of young transport planners, but does not intend to seek to confer chartered status on its members.
The Society has the full support of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK), Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Royal Town Planning Institute.
Membership Membership is open to persons practising or studying transport planning, corporate members of relevant professional bodies and others of an appropriate standard of training or experience.
There are two classes of individual members, full and student. Student members may attend all society meetings but may not vote on formal business.
Membership Fees Full: £30 Student: Free for first year (£10 thereafter while student)
Benefits of Membership The Society gives members the opportunity to attend nationally organised meetings and lectures on topical transport issues, drawing together professionals from all aspects of the field of transport planning. The Society also enables members to meet on a more informal basis, to exchange ideas through a series of planned social events and connect through its Internet site. Opportunities also arise for members to serve on specialist working groups considering particular transport policy issues or progressing the development of transport planning practice.
Under special arrangement, individual members will be entitled to a discount of the annual subscription rate to the journal Local Transport Today. LTT is a fortnightly magazine providing comprehensive coverage of the urban and regional transport scene in the UK from the viewpoint of planners and policy makers. There is also 45% off the annual subscription to Transit magazine.
