Britannia Tubular Bridge over the Menai Straits - 1849
This bridge excited the attention of the world engineering community unlike any structure of its time.While criticism was levelled at its uneconomic use of material compared with various truss designs, the intellectual effort involved in its design and construction was, and remains, a source of wonder.
