Advice, support and financial assistance
The Benevolent Fund of the Institution of Civil Engineers supports current and past members who need help for various reasons. The charity also helps dependants of such members.

The Fund's objectives are:

  • to provide information and advice to civil engineers and their families
  • to help by providing one-off grants, loans and regular financial support
  • to operate and manage estates of houses and flats built for engineers and their families
  • to develop awareness and understanding of our activities throughout the industry.

Helping you do more
The QUEST fund supports three awards: undergraduate, continuing education and overseas travel.

The undergraduate award supports those going into the first year of their course, while the other two scholarships are available to help those who are already members.

If you would like help with returning to full- or part-time education and have been a member for more than two years, you can apply for the continuing education award.

The overseas travel award enables members to travel abroad to follow a course of study (maximum 12 months), research local practice, give a lecture, attend an international conference, or undertake any other activity compatible with their CPD.

The Eloise Plunkett Award is a travel award specifically for newly qualified female civil engineers to undertake travel with, ideally, an unusual approach.

Concessionary rates
Members who cannot afford the full membership subscription may be eligible for the concessionary rate. This is available to those whose income is £11,000 or less a year and may be suitable for members who are retired, are on career breaks or maternity leave, have been made redundant or are doing voluntary work. The yearly concessionary and retired subscription rate is £50, regardless of where you live.

Regional Support Teams and country representatives
If you need help or advice but are not sure who to turn to, you can contact your Regional Support Team or country representative, who will be able to offer advice or refer you to someone who can help.
