A message from our Director General

Welcome to the 2009 Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) members' guide, which gives you an overview of all that the Institution has to offer.

ICE provides a comprehensive range of services to our members and offers help, support and advice from your first day at university or college through to retirement and beyond.

We have a large number of resources available to see you through every stage of your career: training, recruitment, career development, journals, awards, funding, books, events, information, plus the use of our library and headquarters in London.

The experience and know-how of our members gives ICE the authority to inform government, key decision-makers and the media on civil engineering-related matters and we are globally recognised as a source of knowledge and expertise.

Sustainability is as important to the Institution as it is to society as a whole, so I ask that next year you opt to receive your membership pack online, rather than in printed form. Please go to the MyICE section of the website to sign up.

Our members make the Institution; they uphold ICE’s core values of integrity, honesty, ethical behaviour, high standards and professionalism within civil engineering. It is your membership, no matter what your level of involvement with the Institution, which ensures ICE’s continued success.

Whether you are an undergraduate, chairman of the board, or enjoying your retirement, I hope your association with the Institution continues to be long and rewarding.
