ICE is committed to providing its community of highly skilled and knowledgeable members with the information and support they need to excel. We provide professional dispute resolution services, legal guidance, and information on European structural design codes, and publish a range of NEC3 contracts.

Avoiding and resolving disputes

Professionals in the engineering industry often find they need knowledge, expertise and training in dispute resolution. ICE is a centre of excellence in providing these services.
As well as appointing dispute resolution professionals to help avoid and resolve disputes, the contracts and disputes team maintains four registers of accredited dispute resolution professionals. The following specialist registers are maintained and available to download:

  • adjudicators
  • arbitrators
  • conciliators/construction mediators
  • dispute resolution board members

A register of expert witnesses is also held but is not published.

To further support those involved in disputes, we publish procedures that govern the dispute resolution process.

Making sense of European design codes

European structural design codes are intended to help ensure safety and increase competitiveness in the European construction industry. They will be mandatory for all European public works by 2010.

The Eurocodes Expert website is the UK's primary source of Eurocodes knowledge and comprises the definitive pan-industry site for Eurocodes information, a users' group and a news service. Eurocodes Expert helps clients, designers, contractors and suppliers to understand and use European structural design codes. The service will keep you up to date with industry news, the latest publications, training courses and events.

Revolutionising construction with NEC

The NEC is a legal framework of project management procedures designed to deal with all aspects of the management of engineering and construction projects. NEC promotes a collaborative culture that helps to get projects completed on time and on budget.

Launched in the early 1990s, NEC is now the most widespread UK contract in construction and has been used in over 20 countries. NEC3 has received a unique endorsement from the UK Office of Government Commerce (OGC). The endorsement recommends the use of NEC3 on all public-sector construction projects.

The Olympic Delivery Authority has chosen NEC3 to procure all fixed assets and infrastructure for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
