The professional community that makes up ICE's membership is wide and varied and the grades of membership reflect this. There are more details about each grade in the suite of documents called Series 3000. You can find them on the website in the downloads library.
Professional and ethical standards
The professional and ethical standards that must be followed by all ICE members are laid down in the ICE Code of Professional Conduct.
The standards upheld by ICE members ensure that membership of the Institution commands respect and is synonymous with professionalism and integrity.
The code contains the specific rules of professional conduct, which are set out by the ICE Council under by-law 35, and guidance notes for the application and interpretation of the rules of conduct. Another document, Advice on Ethical Conduct, gives more general information on what we consider to be ethical conduct. These documents are all on the ICE website.
ICE members are expected to have a working knowledge of the rules of professional conduct, and to be aware of the advice on ethical conduct. Any members who have concerns about ethical problems should contact our professional conduct department, who will arrange guidance and advice.

Retired members
Retired members are very welcome in the Institution. You are entitled to a reduced subscription fee (subject to certain conditions) and will continue to receive NCE or NCEI to keep up with industry news. You are also encouraged to share your experience and expertise.
Reinstatement
ICE's reinstatement procedures differ depending on how long you have been off the membership roll. Reinstatement can be time consuming. All members requesting reinstatement must submit CPD records for assessment and those off the roll for three years or more must have a professional review interview. Full details can be found in the document ICE 3162, which is on the website.
