The G&S Division of ICE HKA has organised a Papers Competition for the three consecutive sessions since 2003, aimed at encouraging students' involvement in engineering research and development.
Organised on a session basis, the competition sees the G&S Division invite the civil engineering departments of three Hong Kong universities to submit up to three final year projects from their engineering undergraduate students within selected disciplines.
The five disciplines are:
- Structural and Materials
- Geotechnical
- Environmental, Hydraulics and Hydrology
- Highways, Railways and Transportation
- Construction Practice and Management
All papers are assessed by a senior Member or Fellow of ICE Hong Kong. The Best Paper Award and Award of Merit will be presented for each discipline to the best and second best papers respectively. University of the Year Award will also be presented to the university with the best overall performance in the competition. All awards will be presented after the G&S AGM of each session.
Since the launching of the Papers Competition, the G&S Division has received a good response from Hong Kong universities. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University has won the University of the Year Award for two consecutive sessions since 2003.
