ICE East Midlands premier award is for civil engineering excellence and is presented to an individual whose sustained contribution to civil engineering in the East Midlands over many years is of particular magnitude and stature.
The individual must have made an outstanding contribution to civil engineering but does not necessarily have to be an engineer him/herself.
This may cover contributions in one or more fields arising out of design, research, development or investigation, construction, management (including project management), education and training, and contribution to the profession.
The William Kemp Award is awarded to individuals who are in the course of, or have just completed, their active careers.
Nominations must be received by Friday 22 February 2013.

About William

William Kemp is a former ICE Vice-President and is currently a Vice-Chairman of the Engineering Council.
He served as Highways Director for Scott Wilson from 1986, retiring in 2005 after 40 years service with the company.
In 1985 he helped establish Scott Wilson Pavement Engineering jointly with the University of Nottingham.
He led the establishment of major design offices in Chesterfield and Matlock and the laboratories at Chilwell, Nottingham. The company is a major employer in the region and the training scheme he established has led to the professional qualification of many young engineers.
He received the inaugural William Kemp Award at the ICE East Midlands Gala Dinner in June 2011. The award was named in his honour because of the outstanding contribution he has made to civil engineering in the region.
He is still extremely active in the region. Among other recent project, he chaired an ICE East Midlands seminar on the subject of the proposed High Speed 2 rail link between London and the North, to co-ordinate the ICE regional response to the Government’s consultation on the proposed line.
He was also awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in June 2007.
William is modest about his award saying: “I am amazed and very thankful to the Institution and the regional committee that my work over the years has been recognised. I have enjoyed every minute of it”
Peter Hansford, ICE President 2010/11 added: “William Kemp is a civil engineer who was instrumental in establishing a major business in the region, in managing a number of major highways projects in the region and further afield, and who has overseen the training and professional development of many engineers in the East Midlands.
“Given his outstanding contribution to civil engineering in the region, it is only fitting that not only should he receive this award but that it should be named in his honour.”
