Welcome to East Midlands Water Professional Interest Group
A recent technical development for the East Midlands ICE has been the establishment of a Water Professional Interest Network (PIN). Our role is to provide the Engineering Knowledge committee of the ICE East Midlands Region with a centre of excellence for the region on all ‘watery’ matters. The Water PIN is a group of professionals with particular interest, experience, and expertise in water issues. It is intended that the network should comprise of people who are involved with proposed legislation and academia, feasibility and design, as well as construction and operation. The overarching term ‘water' is deemed to include fluvial and coastal matters, drainage and flooding, water supply, and waste water treatment.
What it does
The Water PIN has a reactive and proactive function:
- we respond to issues arising
- we initiate, promote, and encourage seminars, breakfast briefings, and evening meetings to support the learned society functions of the ICE in the East Midlands
Our first actions have been to:
- support a Breakfast Briefing on the proposed Water Bill
- collate an 'East Midlands' 'water' response to the ICE call for evidence in relation to Low Carbon Infrastructure
- organise a seminar on Low Carbon Solutions
- lead the regional response to assessing the state of water infrastructure in the East Midlands
What is involved and how can I become involved?
We are always keen to extend and strengthen the Water PIN to best reflect the East Midlands and would welcome the support of anyone would like to support the Water PIN in any way. Since its formation we have met several times and we are looking to exploit ecommunications options to minimise extra curricular commitments and our carbon footprint.
Our aim is to establish a strong, excellent, relevant network and we do not expect all members to meet regularly; rather we want to ensure we have comprehensive technical coverage to respond fully to all matters relating to water. To learn more, or find out who is involved, please contact the Regional Director (malcolm.jackson@ice.org.uk) or myself on the contact details below.
