Pre 19

The Regional Education Team (RET) is a regional sub-committee which, together with IPD and Training forms the Education and Training Sub-Committee. It is chaired by the Regional Education Co-ordinator.

The RET's goal is to increase the number of young people interested in pursuing a career in civil engineering. It does this through encouraging regional members to sign up as Ambassadors who go into schools undertaking events to promote civil engineering. The RET is also responsible for Ambassador Management, development of new activities and support of existing activities. The RET works in partnership with the organisations ConstructionSkills and STEMNET.

Background to the Regional Education Team & ICE Ambassadors

RET membership
The ICE East Midlands RET currently has five members (plus the Regional Director and Bridge to Schools Co-ordinator). The team is chaired by Mervyn Pettifor, who has taken on the role of Regional Education Co-ordinator.

Ambassadors
Ambassadors agree to support a minimum of two activities per year and all require a CRB check. Ambassadors should inform the RET and partnership organisations of activities they have taken part in.

Training
We recently had a very sucessful Ambassador Workshop in Sept 2010 where over 80 people attended.

Bridge to Schools
This has proved very successful in 2010 with good Ambassador support and interest from schools.

Schools activities
Ideas have been put forward for potential schools activities that could be developed by the ICE East Midlands or supported by Ambassadors. These are currently being developed for launch in early 2011.
