Opening in Q4 2013, London Gateway will be the UK~s first 2lst Century major deep-sea container port and Europe's largest logistics park. It is one of the largest private investments (~1.5 billion) in the country and will create over 36,000 jobs. Owned and operated by DP World and situated on the north bank of the River Thames, London Gateway will provide unrivalled deep-sea shipping access to the largest consumer markets in the UK. The port's location, with its superior operational systems and service, will ensure ships load and unload as fast as possible, making London Gateway a world class asset for the UK.
London Gateway is situated on a 1,500 acre disused brownfield site, located just 25 miles east of central London.

London Gateway will make UK supply chains more sustainable by building a deep-water port closer to the consumers and by having a logistics park located adjacent to the port. It is estimated that the location and port centrics of London Gateway will result in 65 million HGV miles being removed from the UK road annual annually, saving customers time, CO2 and fuel costs.
The financial savings have been indicated by Independent maritime consultancy Drewry, who say that shippers will be able to reduce round-trip transport costs by E59 pounds per container to the Midlands and the North-West by choosing London Gateway, which is where some 30% of UK deep-sea volumes are destined. Drewry also indicates that for the London and the South-East, which is also over 30% of the UK deep-sea market, savings of up to ~189 per container can be made from choosing to ship to London Gateway.
