ICE London Waste Panel

Chaired by Nigel Mattravers, the Waste Panel is comprised of professionals and thought leaders with significant experience in the delivery of major waste management projects and services in London.

Nigel Mattravers, Senior Waste Advisor, Golder Associates
Nigel, who is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, has been in the civil engineering industry for some 38 years and spent 20 years in Hong Kong with Mouchel working on power stations and waste projects. Since returning to the UK in 2000 with Mouchel he has worked almost exclusively in the world of waste including eight years with financial advisors Grant Thornton. Nigel is a Director of the think-tank London Remade as well as being a co-opted expert on the Commission for Sustainable London 2012.

Secretary
Jo Carris, Senior Sustainability Consultant, Useful Simple Projects
Jo became a Graduate Member of the Panel in March 2012. Jo is a sustainability consultant in the built environment, with particular interest in resource efficiency. She works with clients, designers and contractors to design out waste and implement sustainable waste management strategies. Jo was Waste Manager on the Olympic Park during design and construction and wrote a number of research papers on waste for the London 2012 Learning Legacy programme.

Allan Barton, Director, Global Leader Resource and Waste Management, Arup
Allan has worked at a senior level in the waste management industry for 22 years. He has considerable experience of this sector, its technologies and the processes employed to handle and treat all categories of waste. He has a proven record in developing and operating waste management businesses, as well as facilitating large waste infrastructure projects. His current role has given him considerable insight into waste management practises around the world. 
 

Jim Brennan, Director, West London Waste Authority
Jim is responsible for the day to day management of the West London Waste Authority, delivering effective and efficient services and management of staff and resources.
 

Darryl Newport, Director of the Sustainability Research Institute, University of East London
Darryl is an environmental scientist specialising in the built environment. His research and policy interests include renewable energy systems, sustainable construction through alternative material use and natural resource management. Darryl has been engaged with a number of major infrastructure projects within London including the London 2012 Olympics and is closely involved in the development of the Institute for Sustainability, including the Sustainable Industry Park at Dagenham Dock.
