Professional Review - What to expect on the day

One of a series of frequently asked questions from North West ICE members on Professional Review.

I am hoping to sit my professional review soon and was wondering if you could give me some idea of what to expect on the day – I am aware of the documents I must submit, but am unsure what the day will entail.

You will receive information on the timing of your review and written assignment/test prior to the day.

Arrival

When you arrive
at the review centre you will be directed to book in and register that you have arrived for your review. The timing of your written assignment/test will be confirmed. You will then be asked to wait and relax until your reviewers are ready.

Waiting

Your reviewers will come and collect you from the waiting area, using the photo you supplied with your submission to them (so make sure it’s recent and recognisable!). It helps if you have a hand free to shake hands with your reviewer/s on meeting.

In the review room

They will then show you into the room where your review will be carried out. There will be several reviews taking place at one time, in the same room, so you will need to settle yourself at your review table and prepare for your presentation to the reviewers.

Presentation

Your reviewers will ask you to start your presentation. Keep an eye on the time so as not to exceed your allotted 15 minutes – but do make sure you use all the time allowed. If you have practised your presentation many times beforehand, this should run smoothly!

Questions

Once you have finished your presentation the reviewers will begin to ask questions relating to what you have just presented. Their questioning will then move on to your project and experience reports, guiding you to demonstrate the required attributes as stated in Appendix A of ICE3001A/ 3002A/ 3003A.

The reviewers will also question you on aspects of your CPD and will normally close the review interview by giving guidance on planning the written assignment/test.

After the interview

Once the reviewers have completed the interview they ask you to go back to the waiting area where you can relax until you are requested to attend your written assignment/test.
