Stephanie Pegg EngTech TMICE works for Eric Wright Civil Engineering.
Who do you work for and what is your role?
I am an Assistant Estimator for Eric Wright Civil Engineering. My role involves pricing a wide range of Civil Engineering projects including retaining walls, bridges, culverts and public realm. It is part of Eric Wright Group whose ‘fundamental philosophy is to operate a profitable property and construction business which provides secure long-term job opportunities for its staff, and to establish durable relationships with clients, suppliers and sub-contractors while returning a proportion of its profits to the community by way of support for local charities and deserving causes.’ (ericwright.co.uk)
What is your greatest achievement to date?
Becoming a Technician Member of ICE, finishing my final year dissertation!
What do you enjoy most about your job as a civil engineer?
The variety: no two days are the same, I can be in the office one day number crunching, and on site the next day assessing projects that I am pricing.
What route did you take to become a Technician?
The standard route - I completed a HNC in Civil Engineering and began fulfilling my Development Objectives and writing the project and experience reports whilst undertaking my studies.
What do you feel being a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers has given you?
It has given me more respect, particularly as I am still at university part-time. I feel I have gained more respect from my colleagues.
Would you say that your ICE membership has helped you in the development of your career?
ICE membership has helped develop my career. I have recently begun a new job and I feel that by being a member of the ICE it set myself apart from others during the job application process. It showed I am dedicated and driven to progress in my career. Also when fulfilling the Development Objectives it gave me the chance to appreciate how much I have learnt in my short career time (5 years).
