The Edinburgh Area Branch (EAB) of the ICE covers the area from the Firth of Forth to the Borders.
It has a strong team of volunteers who meet monthly and contribute to a wide range of events and initiatives. The Branch has pioneered the webcasting and recording of Branch evening technical lectures and the majority of technical meetings are available in this live 'webinar' format, enabling members to view the Powerpoint slides and lecture theatre webcam, hear the lecture and ask questions of the speaker through the Chat Box, wherever they are worldwide; then view the recording selectively later. No special software, apart from Adobe Flash Player, needs to be installed on the PC.

In addition to arranging the usual calendar of events, we also focus on making sure our members are aware of the services we can provide for them. Many people are aware of the subscription fee going out but do not know how they can make the most of their membership. For example, all members need to ensure that their CPD hours are maintained and many are struggling to get the training due to cuts in spending. We would like them to know about the evening meetings we provide for free and their access online for those who cannot get to Edinburgh or are not available on the night of the presentation. There are also free courses in construction law and low cost training courses in Eurocodes. The Committee would welcome any suggestions members have regarding the service we provide; please contact our Honorary Secretary. We are also always looking for people to get involved with the Committee.
