Membership workshops

The following events are offered by the ICE Scotland Membership Development Officers throughout the year. If you have any questions or are still unsure which is most suitable for you, please contact your local MDO.

Supervising Civil Engineer (SCE) Forums

The purpose of these Forums is to bring SCEs and others involved with the training and supervision of Professional Review candidates up-to-date with procedures and processes.

Who should attend? SCEs, Delegated Engineers (DEs), Training/HR staff and other members of staff who are supervising trainees.

Routes to Membership Seminars

The purpose of these seminars is to outline the various Routes to Membership.

Who should attend? Any potential candidate who wishes to get information to help them progress or any senior member of staff who wishes to update their knowledge.

Routes to Membership for Technicians
The Institution wishes to Technicians to gain professional Membership and these sessions look at the application process, the Development Objectives and the Attributes to be demonstrated at Review, using the experience gained whilst working as a Technician.

Who should attend? Technicians who wish to gain Professional Membership and those already qualified who wish to assist their colleagues and staff.

Routes to Membership for Academics

The Institution wishes to assist people working in our universities and colleges to gain professional Membership and these sessions look at the application process, the Development Objectives and the Attributes to be demonstrated at Review, using the experience that can be gained whilst working in academia.

Who should attend? People currently working in academia who wish to gain Professional Membership and those already qualified who wish to assist their colleagues and staff.

Technical Report Route (TRR) Seminars

The Technical Report Route is open to any candidate who does NOT have the appropriate academic base for the level of Membership to which they aspire. For example, a candidate with an HNC, eligible for EngTech TMICE, or a candidate whose first degree makes them eligible for IEng MICE, but who wishes to become CEng MICE, and does not wish to return to university or college to gain the higher academic qualification. The Technical Report is used to demonstrate the candidate’s understanding of the engineering principles underlying their work, and that they have, through their work, attained the academic base required.

Who should attend? Potential candidates for this route, or their managers or mentors.

Career Appraisal Workshop

The Career Appraisal process is used by candidates who wish to have their period of initial professional development "signed off", but who do not have a training agreement. This workshop describes the application process and includes discussion of the completion of Development Objectives, CPD and the Career Appraisal Report.

Who should attend? This Workshop is for candidates progressing to CPR and MPR who are not on an approved ICE Training Scheme and/or their managers.

Work Based Further Learning Seminar

Further learning in the workplace is a way of upgrading your educational base, so that you become eligible for a higher grade of Professional Membership, without doing a course of additional academic study at college or university.  This seminar provides information mainly to assist with Self Managed Work Based Further Learning and will be useful for graduates and supervising staff alike.  It will also be useful as an introduction to Work Based Further Learning, for those who would like to set up Employer Managed Work Based Further Learning Schemes.

Who should attend?
This Workshop is for candidates aiming for grades of Professional Membership, which are above those for which they are currently eligible, for supervising staff and for those who would like to set up Employer Managed Work Based Further Learning Schemes.
