Business Plan

ICE Municipal Group Scotland is the Institution of Civil Engineers’ special interest group for professionals who work or are involved in public service delivery within Scotland. The services provided by Municipal Engineers underpin the fabric of modern society.

Successful delivery of public services requires specialist skills and expertise, and is more than just the delivery of the technical aspects of engineering.  It is also necessary to consider political and ethical issues, as well as understanding how to work with the public and looking at over-arching government policies.
The aspirational aims and operational targets set by the Business Plan of ICE Municipal Group Scotland are in line with the objectives set out in the constitution and can be summarised in the following key themes:

• to provide objective technical, managerial and ethical advice on current issues mainly through appropriate C.P.D. events;
• to collate, share and stimulate ‘Best Practice’ in municipal engineering in Scotland;
• to influence and advise politicians at local and national level through debate
and presentation of relevant information.

The purpose of the Municipal Group’s Business Plan is to focus on how to help fellow members deliver these requirements.
The operational targets are developed and implemented by the Municipal Group Scotland Committee and form the basis of our routine business. The aspirational aims will guide our long term strategy.

The Business Plan is also a living document and adapts to circumstances and will change through time, and as targets are reached and / or maintained over a period of time, the Business Plan will adopt new targets rather than remaining static.  A new Business Plan was adopted in October 2010 and while many are similar to the targets in the previous plan, they are still relevant. They are achievable, even although some may only be achieved in the longer term and possibly not within the lifetime of this current plan.

Progress in achieving the operational targets is regularly monitored by means of a spreadsheet which is reviewed by the committee at each meeting.  Progress towards the targets can be monitored by following the links at the side of the page.
