Student Prizes

Student Prizes

Since 2007, the Scottish Geotechnical Group has awarded annual prizes to final year students completing Civil Engineering (and allied) first degree programmes for exceptional performance in the broad subject areas of Geotechnical Engineering, Geo-environmental Engineering and/or Engineering Geology. One prize per participating university is offered.
Prizes are also awarded for exceptional performance on MSc courses in the broad subject areas of Geotechnical Engineering, Geo-environmental Engineering and/or Engineering Geology. One prize per participating university is offered.

The prizes are in book form and are presented at our Annual Poster Competition in Glasgow. All winners will be invited to attend the presentation ceremony, but those unable to attend will have their prize forwarded by post.

The selection of the winning student will be the privilege and responsibility of the participating university within the guidelines set out below:

  • The criteria for award of the prize should be for the best performance in Geotechnical Engineering, Geo-environmental Engineering and/or Engineering Geology.
  • 'Best performance' may be interpreted as that in the relevant subject examination(s) and/or in respect of the best relevant thesis. Alternatively it may be for a student who has shown a particular commitment to the subject area.
  • These criteria are intended to provide maximum scope to allow rewarding the most deserving student in your institution.
