Graduates and students

ICE South East England provides a number of services for its Graduate and Student members, predominantly through the three branch G&S committees.

Membership Support

As well as the services of our Membership Development Officers, ICE South East England runs a number of events for the benefit of G&S members.  These include Written Assignment Groups, Professional or Technician Review Seminars, Membership Clinics and the London Study Tour to name but a few.  Details of all upcoming events can be found in our events section.

Competitions

Alongside Engineering Excellence Awards we run two competitions for G&S members - the Papers Competition for individuals and the team Communications Competition - while our G&S committees also take responsibility for running the region's annual five-a-side football contest.

Social Events

Our G&S committees also organise regular social events, anything from curry nights to ten-pin bowling and bungee jumping.  Details of all upcoming events can be found in our events section.

Inspiring the Young

A large number of our G&S members also get involved in our work with schools.  Seeing an engineer closer to their own age can really inspire a young person to consider the profession.  Plus these events tend to be a lot of fun!

G&S Committees

Becoming involved with their local committees gives G&S members valuable experience of working with members of the industry outside of their immediate professional area and hones negotiation, organisation and budgetary skills, all of which provide invaluable background experience for the professional review.

My experience with G & S

Lara Smith

I have been working for a consultancy in the South East since 2008 and engaging with the G&S committee has provided me with the opportunity to create my own network of contacts from all areas of the industry and at all levels from fellow graduates in consultancy and contracting firms to company bosses and even the president of the ICE. By engaging in the wide variety events, from football and pub quizzes to school visits, lectures and tours I have learnt much about areas of the industry I wouldn’t ordinarily be exposed to, gaining valuable CPD and having fun.
It is easy to get involved, just turn up to one of the events or a committee evening and you can do as much or as little as you want, we are always looking for fresh faces and new ideas. It really can open doors for you!
