Bridge to Schools

Mainly for primary pupils, although visits to secondary schools can be arranged.

ICE Wales Cymru funds three model cable stayed bridges - minature versions of the Second Severn Crossing - to be taken into schools in south, north and west Wales, working with ConstructionSkills Wales, Careers Wales and Mid Glamorgan Education Business Partnership.  The children experience bridge building at first hand, even wearing hard hats, high visability vests, gloves and goggles.  After the bridges have been constructed each child has the opportunity to walk across the bridge to test their engineering skills.

Each bridge session is accompanied by learning materials and supervised by a presenter with support from Construction Ambassadors.

A leaflet about Bridge to Schools is available in English and in Welsh.
