Partnership for Apprenticeships in Civil Engineering

Civil engineers design, build and manage the worlds we live in. Our buildings, tall and small, - our tunnels, bridges and dams, harbours, ports and airports, our transport systems - road, rail, underground, cycle ways and footpaths, the water we drink and wash with, our energy supplies, wind farms and other innovative forms of energy generation, even our waste disposal systems. In short, as a civil engineer you do make a difference to our world.

Civil engineering is an exciting and rewarding job. By combining a range of subjects including science, maths, geography, design and business skills, civil engineering offers a professional career in a wide variety of projects with opportunities to work around the world.

What is PACE?

What is PACE?
The apprenticeship for civil engineers is intended for school leavers or others with sufficient educational qualifications to allow them entry onto further or higher education courses in civil engineering that are accredited by ICE as an educational base for membership.

The scheme covers the period when the trainee is obtaining the educational base by day release and provides a framework and guidance on the job based learning that should be achieved and recorded during this period.

On completion of the apprenticeship the apprentice should have achieved the educational base to allow them to enter an ICE civil engineering training agreement and subsequently achieve professional levels of membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
