ICE Yorkshire and Humber are keen to celebrate the success of civil engineers in our Region, and provide a number of Awards, Competitions and Scholarships throughout the year.
Yorkshire and Humber Annual Awards
Each year two awards are presented:
The Centenary Award - presented to the best project of excellence in concept, design and execution, constructed within the Region.
The Smeaton Award - presented to the best project of excellence not constructed in the Region, but for which there has been a substantial input from Civil Engineers in the Region. The project could be a construction project outside the Region or a project that does not lead to construction.
The winners and runners up are announced at the Annual Gala Dinner Dance, and trophies and certificates are presented to the successful projects.
Shaping Society Award
The Shaping Society Award aims to encourage Civil Engineers to consider, debate and influence society on how they can positively shape our Region's future. Aimed at members who have achieved an ICE professional qualification within the last ten years, the Award is judged on a submission question set each year.
QUEST Technician Scholarship
ICE's new scholarship provides up to £1500 of financial support for those who are studying an approved full or part-time course in Civil Engineering or Construction in the UK. The scholarship helps those who are completing a course which may lead to professional qualification as an Engineering Technician.
Communications Competition
The ICE Communications Competition is open to Graduate and Student members of the ICE with no more than 7 years industry experience. The competition offers a large number of young engineers the opportunity to develop their communications skills, using role-play public consultation scenarios based around mock engineering scheme proposals.
Graduate and Student Papers Competition
The Graduate and Student Papers Competition is held every year to promote and reward excellence in the communication of Civil Engineering issues and ideas. It is a chance to showcase your talent, an excellent opportunity to improve your written and verbal skills in readiness for your professional review, and you could end up winning a prize.
