ICE responds to consultations by government departments and agencies and also regularly submits evidence to Parliamentary Select Committee Inquiries. To view consultations we are currently involved in click here.

The State of the Nation Report is compiled annually by a panel of ICE experts to stimulate debate and to highlight the actions that we believe need to be taken to improve the state of the UK's infrastructure.

The 2006 Report was published on 17 October. For more details click here.

In 2003, a regional version covering the West Midlands was produced - in 2004 there were five regional versions published: Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, West Midlands and Yorkshire.

In advance of the London Mayoral and Assembly elections that were held on June 10 2004, an Agenda for Change - London was produced and distributed to key individuals and organisations involved in London's government. A European Agenda for Change is currently being written and will be presented to MEPs and others in the autumn.

For the 2003 elections to the Welsh and Northern Ireland Assemblies and Scottish Parliament, ICE published an 'Agenda For Change' - a document outlining what we want to see happen in each country's infrastructure - from flood defence to public transport.

Events

ICE Parliamentary Reception

ICE holds an annual Parliamentary Reception; the 2004 event was held on June 15 and marked the publication of the State of the Nation Report. It was the most successful ever, with over 300 people, including over 80 MPs and peers, attending.

In 2005 and 2006 ICE faced three line votes in the House of Commons - but still had strong attendence from Parliamentarians and industry.

Party Conferences

For the third year in succession, ICE teamed up with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) to represent our members at the annual conferences of the three main political parties.  Carbon Trust support the events during September and October.

Following the recent Government Energy Review, the receptions were themed around energy efficiency, under the banner of "Climate change - How can building design and engineering technology help homes and businesses reduce their impact on the environment?

Informal and private meetings and discussions are also held with ministers, opposition spokespeople, backbenchers, peers, civil servants, interest groups and business. These often involve the President, Vice Presidents and Director General and key experts from relevant ICE Boards. A whole series of these meetings, often held over lunch or dinner at Great George Street, is scheduled every year and relate to key issues for the organisation.

Ad hoc briefings, both verbal and written are also given to key figures in Whitehall and Westminster as well as in Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast.

ICE is involved and has relations with a number of cross-party groups of MPs and peers, including:
