Located in the heart of Westminster, the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) has long held a close relationship which government, Parliament and government departments.
ICE works constantly to engage with these key stakeholders. Through formal responses to government consultations and select committee inquiries the expert opinion and specialist resources of ICE are represented at the very centre of politics.
ICE also carries out proactive political engagement via its expert panels and members. Through the launch of major reports, such as State of the Nation and the publication of smaller policy position briefing documents ICE maintains its influence over issues high on the political agenda.
Informal and private meetings and discussions are also held in confidence with ministers, opposition spokespeople, backbenchers, peers, civil servants, interest groups and business. These meetings often involve ICE´s President, Vice Presidents and Director General and key experts from relevant ICE Boards.
The ICE serves as secretariat to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Infrastructure. The group brings together over forty Members of Parliament and Members of the House of Lords who share a mutual interest in highlighting the importance of infrastructure to the economy and to society. The Institution of Civil Engineers supports the group by arranging a series of visits to major infrastructure sites, hearing from expert speakers and discussing matters arising.
