Water is one of our most important natural resources. Engineers plan, develop and manage water resources to meet society’s needs – from capturing, treating and distributing water, through to managing wastewater and sewerage.

Climate change and rising populations make managing flood risk and securing future water supplies even more difficult.

The Pumping Station*

A number of challenges faced the engineers in charge of managing water resources and flood risk on the Olympic Park site. These included improving river water quality, building drinking water and sewerage systems, opening up the waterways for navigation and creating a waterscape that improves the ecology and aesthetics of the area whilst providing new leisure opportunities.
