Publications and proceedings

Below is a sample of ICE publications relating to energy.

No cover image available Energy Proceedings: energy from waste

This themed issue of 'Energy' is dedicated to the important issue of energy from waste.  The content offers a useful insight into a landfill plant in South Africa - a site under the clean development mechanism.  There is a trio of papers on the Sheffield energy recovery facility (SERF) in the UK, which cover an introduction and overview; the pre-construction process including the difficulties and risks associated with the project; and an overview of the first year of operation from 2006.  Plus there are papers on the policy and institutional issues associated with waste to energy in the UK.

Published May 2010.

Energy Proceedings

This regular peer-reviewed journal addresses the challenges of energy engineering in the 21st century.  Topics addressed include the development of sustainable energy policy, low carbon energy technologies, energy efficiency in buildings, renewable energy sources, the operation and decommissioning of projects, and energy conservation.

A themed issue on clean fossil fuel technology will be published in 2011.

Energy and environmental issues for the practising architect

Producing an energy efficient and environmentally friendly building can be a daunting task for the everyday architect.  This book aims to remove the mystery and complexity from this process.  It gives an overview and practical advice on how to implement the wide range of topics that must be addressed at the early stage in the design process.  It deals with the background to energy and the environmental issues; explains how the various design elements can affect the overall performance of the building; and takes the architect through the initial design process.  Plus there are a series of case studies.
