These guidance sheets relate to work activities with the potential for risks to health, and are grouped to form logical design related categories.
These are not intended to be prescriptive and specialist structures such as those found in civil and process engineering, pylons or off-shore structures may create other health risks not considered in this suite of information sheets.
The designer will need to consider the particular circumstances for any situation to ensure that all significant health risks are reviewed so far as is reasonably practicably. Certain generic elements of construction work eg concrete works have been allocated theirown sheet, and are cross-referenced elsewhere within the suite.
This guidance should be read in conjunction with the HSE website at http://www.hse.gov.uk/construction/healthrisks/designers.htm

The legal requirement to do something 'so far as is reasonably practicable' lies at the heart of what we do, and particularly so as designers. This report examines the legal background and identifies a number of issues that require clarification in order for duties to be discharged effectively and in a compliant manner.
