Transport Buildings Sub-panel

The PHEW Transport Buildings sub-panel was set up in 2004 but took off in 2008 with the publication of the first edition of its newsletter. The newsletter was prepared as a regular report to the Panel on progress and to heighten interest in the topic by giving details of a transport building or structure of interest to the wider reader.

The sub-panel records and maintains a database of historically important buildings relating to transport infrastructure.  These include the following

Bus garages and stations
Car parks
Passenger train sheds
Goods sheds / warehouses
Transit warehouses
Ferry Terminals
Passenger interchanges
Road service stations and garages
Toll houses
Rail works and stations
Aircraft manufacturing and control towers
Ship yards
Vehicle manufacturing
Carriage works

The following are not included as they are covered by the work of other subpanels : buildings relating to aircraft (terminals and hangars), airship hangars, canal infrastructure, tunnels, lighthouses, rail track, bridges and motorways.
