Information management for major projects

The progression of data through the life cycle of a construction project has been a key concern for the IS Panel for some time now.

Although there has been some work around the world in producing a progressive data management strategy, there has not been a cohesive outline of (people's) needs at every stage of the build.

From concept, design, construction through to operation, projects still entail the basic task of handing over pieces of paper from one team to another.

The Panel is carrying out a research project to identify what data is valuable at each part of the chain or specific parts of the chain; what data is required; and what value it places on the overall asset, rather than just within the channels of the construction process.

The IS Panel has organised a number of workshops looking at case studies and continues to talk to key industry players and produce briefing sheets (available from the downloads library). See also page on Engineering Management in a Digital Economy
