The Management Panel has representatives on a number of external groups in order to stay up to date with current management best practice.
FIG
The Fédération Internationale des Géomètres (FIG - International Federation of Surveyors) is a working group on Project Management. FIG’s technical work is led by 10 commissions.
Commission 10, Construction Economics and Management, contains the discipline ‘Project and Programme Management’ with the following definition: The overall management of projects from a high, strategic level, concentrating on addressing problems and risks before they impinge upon a project and generally smoothing out the path of the construction process usually on behalf of the project owners/sponsors.
CIRIA
On occasion, the Management Panel provides a representative to sit on CIRIA steering groups in order to guide preparation of new CIRIA guidance. The Management Panel’s most recent involvement was with CIRIA includes work on Whole-life infrastructure asset management: good practice guide for civil infrastructure.
BSI
Two Management Panel representatives sit on the British Standard Institute (BSI) Committee that deals with BS6079, ISO10006 and the future ISO 21500. One representative provides expertise in the field of Civil Engineering Project Management and the other provides commercial expertise.
