Associated Societies and Groups

Associated Societies of the ICE are crucial to the Institution's 'learned society' function, contributing to our knowledge base across a wide range of specialist areas, within the diverse arena of the built and natural environment.

The Associated Societies exist to foster continuing professional development and the exchange of knowledge and experience between engineers by way of technical papers and discussions, site visits to engineering works, and informal meetings and discussions about specialist areas of engineering.

There are 13 Associated Societies administered by the Institution.  Many are non-ICE members, thus providing a benefit to ICE members whilst bringing non-members into the Institution.  Those societies with a specific relation to Transport include the Transport Planning Society (TPS), and the Railway Civil Engineering Association (RCEA).

Further information on these societies are available via the tabs on the left column of this.

Inter-institutional Groups

The ICE's Transport Expert Panel is also represented on several Inter-institutional groups related to the transport sector. These include:

The Railway Engineers Forum (REF), which is an inter-institution group aimed at harmonising the various strengths of the constituent Institutions in devising and implementing their programmes of activities in support of the railway community.

The Green Light Group (GLG) is a collaboration between professional organisations whose technical expertise informs our advice about the best methods of delivering a road pricing system in the UK. It produced a series of reports, each contributing to a different area of the road pricing debate.

Further information on these groups are available via the tabs on the left column of this web page.
