Geospatial Community of Practice
Geospatial engineering is all about multi-dimensional mapping and organisation. It's applied in many sectors, and is a particularly important area for asset managers such as local authorities.
The Maritime Community of Practice (COP) seeks to support ICE’s knowledge programmes, insights and policy development for coastal erosion, flood risk management, offshore energy, ports and inland navigation.
The Maritime COP is coordinated by a team of industry experts led by Nick Hardiman, Environment Agency.
It supports our key learning society objectives of policy consultation, knowledge provision and thought leadership.
The COP supports ICE in its development of projects focusing on key areas in the sector including coastal engineering and management, dredging, flood risk management, offshore engineering, ports, harbours, and docks.
The Maritime COP and its Leadership Group supports ICE's learning society activity through:
Nick has eighteen years' experience in the field of land and water management in the UK and internationally, and has for ten years led on coastal management at the Environment Agency's national Flood and Coastal Risk Management Directorate. He has led the Maritime COP since 2018, and key Panel events such as the 2019 international Coastal Management conference in La Rochelle, and the Panel's biennial Vernon Harcourt Lecture.
The COP has produced the following outputs:
ICE needs your help to help us build and develop its expert technical and practical knowledge.
As an expert member of the community, you will be able to share knowledge, thoughts and experiences with like-minded professionals and collaborate with others to help achieve the community’s vision?
Community members do not have to be ICE members, but they must have appropriate knowledge skills and expertise in alignment with the vision of the relevant community.
Communication between the Community shall be facilitated through a dedicated Microsoft Teams group, providing the opportunity to communicate with ICE and professionals with a shared interest in the COP’s objectives.
If you are committed to supporting activity tackling coastal erosion, flood risk management, offshore energy, ports and inland navigation, then we want to hear from you.
If you are an engineer or infrastructure professional working in maritime and interested in joining the Community of Practice to support the development of ICE knowledge and policy, please contact our knowledge team.
If you have a question for our Maritime Community of Practice, are interested in adding your input to the community, or require details on the communities output, then let us know.
