The group represents the interests of retired and non-working members of ICE who are based in the South East England region.
One of the principle aims of the group is to provide events, visits and meetings of technical interest for retired and non-working members. It is also the intent to connect the group with younger engineers who are seeking mentors or advice from experienced engineers to assist them in progressing their careers.
Events are open to all ICE members but, as they are planned for day times and some Saturdays, will appeal to retired and non-working members and their partners.
Objectives of the group
1. To advance the ICE South East England knowledge offering to all ICE members in the region.
2. To provide opportunities for retired engineers to meet and network with other professionals, both working and retired, and to share their knowledge and experience for the better promotion of civil engineering within the workplace and beyond.
3. To provide support to Graduate, Student and Apprentice engineers.
4. To promote mentoring of younger engineers and promote civil engineering as a career choice including visits to schools and other institutions.
5. To assist in mobilising interest in retired engineers who might otherwise be lost to the profession in order to meet the wider membership objectives of the ICE.
Mentoring
In respect of Objective 4, the organising group believes that there is a significant experience base within the retired membership which can be extremely helpful to younger engineers seeking assistance in developing their careers and preparing for professional qualifications. The ICE is currently updating the mentoring matching website - http://www.ice.mentormatch.me/ - which will be relaunched later in 2017. The group will be organising a launch event so that those retired members who are interested in mentoring can get more information.
The organising team would be delighted to hear from any retired members who wish to join the team or who have any ideas for future events. Please contact one of the team directly. Alternatively, for further information on forthcoming events, you can contact the SEE team, [email protected]
