About this event

This one day Classroom course covers bridge loading, analysis and design. Emphasis is given to the following objectives, that inherently include design for longevity and sustainability of bridges:

  • Loading of Bridges
  • Analysis of Bridge Decks
  • Design
  • Practice

The module aims to promote:

  • Understanding of available bridge construction
  • Understanding of the type and representation of actions (models), pertinent to bridge structures and methods to quantify these for the analysis of bridges
  • Understanding of the methods of analysis used to determine the action effects, stress resultants and displacements, in a range of bridge superstructures
  • Understanding of the principles of prestressed concrete as applied to bridges.
  • Understanding of the load balancing method
  • Understanding of the section analysis used to determine the serviceability stress and deflection behaviour of prestressed concrete and the ultimate strength of bridge superstructures.
  • Understanding of the allowable concrete stresses, losses, reactions methods
  • Understanding of the designer's principal duties in relation to the design of prestressed bridges
