Dr Donald Lamont MBE, CEng, FICE currently Director of Hyperbaric & Tunnel Safety Ltd, formerly Principal Specialist Inspector of Health and Safety (Civil Engineering) Health and Safety Executive.

Session One: outlining the UK health and safety legislation that engineering graduates should be conversant with in their everyday work and for the professional review.

Session Two: delivering an overview from an engineering perspective, of occupational health issues affecting the construction industry and the need for welfare facilities.

The seminars address Attributes A1, B2, B3, E2, E4.

Topics include:

  • Legal principles and general H&S legislation (HSW Act, MHSWR etc)
  • Hazard specific and industry specific regulations (CDM, PUWER, Work at Height, etc)
  • Fitness for work (general good practice and statutory requirements)
  • Ill health due to work (construction health hazards, workforce effects and potential mitigation techniques)
  • Welfare
