What will the project deliver?

New dual carriageway running around the north of Norwich city, from A1067 to the west of Norwich to the A47 Postwick Junction to the east.

The project includes:

  • 12 new roundabouts
  • Over 1.5 million m3 of earthworks
  • A new grade separated junction with the A140
  • 8 bridges and a bat tunnel

Local impact

Tackles traffic on Norwich's Outer Ring Road and on key routes in and out of the city. It will also take cars off residential and rural roads; as well as cutting city centre through traffic. It significantly improves access for north Norwich and north and north east Norfolk, the wider road network and to Norwich Airport.

Interesting facts

The project needs to work with wildlife constraints that include bats, Great Crested Newts, owls, badgers and also tackle invasive species that includes Japanese Knotweed.

The work also includes the archaeological investigation of a World War 2 crash site.
