Week 1: Contractual documents - Thursday 9 November

Speaker: Neil O'Connell, Strategic Frameworks Manager, Hampshire County Council

  • Brief Introduction to contracts and formation of a contract
  • Workshop on Contractual documents and their interaction with the project and the project parties.
  • This will highlight the importance of having a complete contractual chain and demonstrate which type of contractual documents should be used when and by whom.

Week 2: Contract Terms and Defects - Thursday 16 November

Speakers: Gwilym Evans and Marilyn Miles, Solicitors, Blake Morgan Construction Team

  • Common terms of contract (LD's/time/exclusion clauses/limits on liability)
  • Delict (Fault/Liability/Nuisance/Professional Negligence)
  • Defects arising under a contract.

Week 3: Disputes - Thursday 23 November

Week 4: NEC in Detail - Thursday 30 November

  • NEC objectives - Main and secondary options
  • Contract structure (data, site information and works information)
  • Managing performance with time and programming
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Early Warning and Compensation Events
  • Notices

Week 5: Applying NEC Contracts - Thursday 7 December

Speaker: Dr Keith Gale, Chief Engineer (Contracts), Hampshire County Council

  • NEC3 – Framework and contract options
  • Management of early warnings, risk reduction and compensation events
  • Timescales and programming
  • Commercial issues and Project Managers assessments
  • Update on NEC4
